Nottingham Castle Reopening for Coronation of King Charles III
Saturday May 6th 2023: Coronation Day Picnic and Giant Screening of Coronation of King Charles III
Sunday May 7th 2023: Celebration Concert broadcast live to Nottingham Castle Big Screen
It is with great pleasure and excitement that we can announce the Nottingham Castle reopening for The King Charles Coronation at the beginning of May 2023. Nottingham Castle has been closed to the public since November 2022 due to financial issues following a £30,000,000 renovation.
On 6th May 2023, the first day of The Coronation of King Charles III, Nottingham Castle will open its doors to the public. The Coronation Processions and the Westminster Abbey Coronation service will be broadcast in the Nottingham Castle grounds on a giant screen and visitors will be encouraged to bring a blanket and have a picnic.
On 7th May 2023, the second day of The King Charles Coronation, the Coronation Concert will also be shown on the big screen at Nottingham Castle. The Coronation Concert will include some of the world’s biggest musicians, dancers, and performers as they take to the stage to celebrate The King Charles Coronation.
Nottingham Castle houses many great works of art, valuable museum collections and unique historic buildings. Other free open days will also happen in May with exact dates yet to be confirmed.
During your visits to the Nottingham Castle reopening, you can expect cave tours, storytelling, archery lessons and medieval re-enactments.
Nottingham Castle is due to reopen on a daily basis in June 2023.
Our boutique hotel in Nottingham is just half a mile away from Nottingham Castle and also features medieval caves underneath the hotel that are open for guest to enjoy. We have even made a bar out of some of the caves so you can raise a glass to Robin Hood and the smugglers of old! Check out our Mercure Nottingham 3D virtual tour.
