Nottingham celebrates Carnival
For the last two years Nottingham Carnival has been a virtual event for obvious reasons. It’s no surprise then that there is a tremendous amount of excitement around the fact that this year the celebration is set to return for a one-day extravaganza on Sunday 21st August from 12pm until 8pm on the glorious Victoria Embankment.
You can expect to see colourful costumes, cuisine and music all stemming from the rich Caribbean, Brazilian and African cultures that are a staple in the culture of our eclectic city.
Richard Renwick, Chair of Nottingham Carnival, said: 'We are so excited to be back in 2022. Nothing beats the sight of the amazing Carnival Parade, the live music sounds and the taste of the world foods we offer.'
As with previous years, the main event of the Nottingham Carnival 2022 will be the awe-inspiring parade. Wherever spectators find themselves on the parade route the sounds of Soca music, Steelband and Samba drums can be heard and will be accompanied by hundreds of dancers in the most vibrant and colourful costumes you can imagine. As always, the parade will follow a circular route around the Victoria Embankment and The Meadows Recreation Ground so no one misses a thing.
The parade marks the culmination of months of hard work by Carnival artists and volunteers working tirelessly to hand-craft their spectacular, colourful costumes and choreograph their moves.
Visitors can enjoy a wide range of musical entertainment across the main stage and three smaller performance areas, performance acts include live bands & DJ sets from a wide variety of backgrounds including: afrobeat, calypso, dancehall, grime, jungle, reggae, Steelpan and much more. Spectators can also expect a variety of food stalls inspired by the cultures, as well as trade stalls and funfair rides for the little ones.
Tickets for the festival are £5 per person, tickets can be found here and under 12s go free.
