Head to Twycross Zoo for a family day out guaranteed to be a roaring success! One of the leading zoos in the Midlands, Tywcross Zoo is also a charity with a pioneering conservation programme: it houses over 500 animals from more than 125 species, from leopards, meercats and penguins, to beautiful butterflies and creepy crawlies in the Butterfly Forest – and everything in between! With cracking Easter prices of up to 60% off, and free parking, it’s a day-trip you can’t afford to miss.
Meet Nandi, a critically endangered eastern black rhino, and the newest resident of Tycross Zoo: she joined the Twycross family in March, and will meet visitors for the first time this Easter. See if you can spot the zoos baby animals, too – Molusc the penguin chick, two wallaby joeys, Kirk’s Dik-Dik fawn and many more!
Make sure to explore award-winning Chimpanzee Eden. Twycross Zoo has housed chimpanzees since opening in 1963, but now, for the first time, they are all in one place, to replicate best how they would live and behave in the wild. This stunning enclosure, costing £3.5 million, opened in 2018: hear chimpanzee thundering through tunnels above your head, and observe these magnificent animals from every angle with the numerous viewing windows and platforms. Smaller visitors can get even closer to the action on a secret viewing platform, too!
There’s plenty to do whatever the weather: watch a live feed; listen to daily 10-minute talks about dozens of different species; find the penguin parade; feed the stunning lorikeet parrots; and, if it’s sunny, splash in the Wet n’ Wild water park! There are several outdoor play areas, and even younger visitors can enjoy the soft play centre. Head to the Explorer Zone for your very own animal encounter, where you’ll meet goats, donkeys and some cuddly household pets; and, if you’re up to the challenge, adventurers aged 3-10 can drive an electric-powered mini Safari car around a bumpy off-road track (thankfully with parents controlling the brakes from behind…!).
Located an easy 30-minute drive from Nottingham’s city centre, head back to the Mercure Nottingham for a well-earned rest after your day of adventure!
